Central Wisconsin is High-Risk for Diabetes!

The overall prevalence of diabetes in Wisconsin and specifically the Central Wisconsin area (Green Lake, Adams, Waushara and Marquette Counties) has increased dramatically...as much as 27%! Diabetes has reached epedemic levels in Wisconsin, 9.6% of all adults and 6,000 children and adolescents have Diabetes, and the number is rising.

Related societal costs have increased substantially as well. Diabetes-related hospitalizations increased nearly 11%, Diabetes-related hospitalization charges increased more than 48%, and the Overall estimated costs of diabetes in adults has increased 16% from $4.47 billion to $5.19 billion.

These dramatic increases demonstrates the importance for each of us to renew our commitment to prevent and increase the
management of diabetes in Wisconsin.
